Holiday Hands

Friends,

Here is a fun, easy, powerful, inspiring, meaningful way to touch someone’s life and meet a great need. Glennon Melton from “Momastery” has put together an event called Holiday Hands. On the site hosted by Together Rising, you can sift through calls for help from hurting people all across the world. Some people want only a pen-pal. Some would love it if you sent a Christmas card to their grandfather who lost his wife this year and is having a difficult time remembering why he wants to live. Some would love a gift card to purchase clothes for their children. It’s up to you how you want to help, and there are hundreds of ways you can that won’t cost you a penny.

On the flip side–those of you who would like help or know of someone who could use a helping of kindness and generosity, go ahead and post the need, and within the hour you will see that there is more Love and Goodness and Light in this God forTaken world than you thought possible. Spread the word, be the word, share a word. Let people know that Love reigns supreme.

And right now, find a way to meet someone in their suffering or let someone into yours. This is our job, our only job, to bear witness to each other’s lives, to do ALL THINGS with GREAT LOVE. Be the reminder that we are in this thing together; we are not alone! YOU are not alone.

Love & Blessings!

Doing It All

Do you ever find yourself muttering or declaring with savagery that there is never enough time?

We rise in the a.m. with high hopes and ambitions, only to lay our heads back down in the p.m. feeling unaccomplished, bedraggled, and a little despondent. Like we will never catch up. Like life is a kite string we stumble toward and chase after, on good days managing to graze with our fingertips and the rest of the time spend trying not to lose our tenuous grip.

Slow down!

Come back!

Wait for me!

Life is an earless animal. It does not hear us when we shout at it. Nor is it a kind stranger sitting in a crowded bus; it will not scoot over and make room for us. It gives us what it gives us. The same amount, everyday, rain or shine. I have realized that I cannot do it all. Maybe you will be surprised to know this came as quite a shock to me. Or maybe not. Maybe it surprised you too at first. I laughed. I said, Oh, no. I’m sorry, but you must be mistaken. You see, I am a multitasker. I do several things at once. It’s like my second job. So really I can do it all. What’s that? I look a bit strung out to you? Dark circles under my eyes? No, no, no, no. I can see how you might think–but no. No. Those are productive circles. Very different. They mean I am fulfilled. Yes, exactly. Fulfilled. Now you understand. Would you like to join me? I’m just going to take a seat here where I can make lunches, check my e-mail, water the lawn, and shave my legs.

Happy Reading, my friends!

Happy Anniversary, TLL

Yesterday morning, as I was making a few laps around the blogosphere, I noticed a curious but auspicious looking symbol in the upper left quadrant of my screen. It was a trophy cup. Many of you, I’m sure, have received this same icon, and were thereupon congratulated. For those of you who have been plugging away at this immeasurably gratifyingly though fiscally unremunerative hobby for less than three hundred and sixty five days will be asking yourselves why there was call for congratulations. Well, maybe now you’re not wondering; but just in case . . .

It was my one year anniversary.

You registered on WordPress.com 1 years ago!

Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging!

I sort of just sat there for a moment, staring at the screen but not really seeing it. And I stayed that way — reflecting — for a while, Briefly I contemplated drafting up a post, then in the end decided against it. You know how some mornings are like that: you wake up, see the task at hand and think, “Oh, geez, I just don’t have the energy for this.” And then a different day, with a different set of moods and feelings changes your entire outlook, in which you fix your eyes upon the exact same task and see not a challenge or a burden, but an assignment drawing your inclinations outward. I do love how life works that way.

So, for any of you who’d like to take a gander at my first post ever, here it be:

If not, I take no offense whatsoever . . . though you will not be receiving the delicious virtual white-chocolate macadamia not cookies I baked this morning. Ball’s in your court.
